Jack Butland insists Rangers will always be “close to my heart” after being announced as the first summer signing of Premier League newcomers Hull City.
The experienced 33-year-old goalkeeper finalised his £3m move to the Tigers earlier today, which sees him pen a two-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months.
Butland – capped nine times by England – replaces Ibrox-bound Croatian international Ivor Pandur as Hull gear up for their return to the English top-flight following a nine-year absence.
Butland departs Ibrox having played every minute of Rangers’ 2025/26 Scottish Premiership campaign, making 55 appearances across all competitions. He leaves after three seasons and 157 outings, which included a League Cup winners medal during his first season.

Commenting on his move to Hull, Butland told the club’s website: “I’m delighted it’s all sorted now and I’m really excited to be here. The Premier League is the best league in the world and, personally, it’s a great opportunity to be on the biggest stage again. I believe it’s the level I’m capable of playing at, and I’ve done it before.
“As a club, we’ve got a great challenge back in the Premier League, not just to stay in the league but to really enjoy it and do as well as we can. It can’t come quickly enough. I’m really looking forward to seeing the fans in a really exciting season for us as a club.
“The last few years playing at an incredible club like Rangers, somewhere I hold close to my heart, meant it had to be something really enticing to change that. The European nights and all the experience I gained up in Scotland, and my experience prior to that, are going to set me up perfectly for the challenge ahead this year.”
Prior to moving to Scotland, Butland played in the Premier League with Stoke City, Crystal Palace and Manchester United. He became England’s youngest-ever shot-stopper when he made his senior international debut in 2012 at the age of 19.
His arrival at the MKM Stadium is the first addition of what is expected to be a busy summer at the club. Hull secured promotion to the Premier League after beating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May.
