Steve Sarkisian Doesn’t Hesitate to Name Best Team in College Football

Before the College Football Playoff quarterfinal games kicked off, the Texas Longhorns were the betting favorite to win the national championship.

Just a few days later, though, the Longhorns find themselves in a completely different role. After defeated Arizona State 39-31 in double-overtime and watching Ohio State obliterate Oregon by a final score of 41-21, the Longhorns now find themselves as significant underdogs against Ohio State.

The current betting line for the game sees Ohio State as a six-point favorite. In his opening comments to the media on Friday afternoon, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian appeared to be using that as bulletin board material.

“Clearly we’re massive underdogs. Nobody’s gonna give us a shot,” he said plainly.

In an apparent message to his team, Sarkisian went a step further, calling the Buckeyes the best team in college football.

“This is the best team in college football and we’re gonna have to make sure that we put our best foot forward to give ourselves a chance to win the game,” he told reporters on Friday afternoon.

It’s difficult to argue with his assessment of the Buckeyes given their two performances so far in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State opened the playoff with a dominant 42-17 win over the Tennessee Volunteers before dispatching previously undefeated Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Following the team’s performances, Ohio State is now the betting favorite to win the national title.

Then again, Texas was the betting favorite to win the title just a few days ago. Coaches will do anything to motivate their teams and suggest they’re being doubted at every turn.

Fans will find out one week from today which team is better when the kick off on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
