Texas RB Sends Subtle Message To Quinn Ewers After Advancing to CFP Semifinal

The Texas Longhorns have had yet another successful season under head coach Steve Sarkisian and are looking to improve on last year’s run to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

This season, the Longhorns have been led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, now in his third year as the starter, and a dominant defense that ranks fourth in the nation, allowing just 14.5 points per game.

On New Year’s Day, the Longhorns squared off against the Arizona State Sun Devils in the College Football Playoff (CFP) quarterfinal at the Peach Bowl.

Texas pulled out a 39-31 overtime win after Arizona State battled back in the latter stages of the game. Ewers had one of his better performances of the season, finishing with 322 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

The next day, Longhorns running back CJ Baxter, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in fall camp, took to social media to call his quarterback the goat with three emojis and no words.

“🐐🐐🐐,” Baxter wrote while sharing a photo of Ewers.

While many fans have called for Texas to turn to backup quarterback Arch Manning, Ewers has been the backbone of the program’s return to prominence.

When Ewers arrived, Texas was coming off a disappointing 5-7 season in 2021. Since then, he has guided the Longhorns to 8-5 in 2022, 12-2 in 2023 and 13-2 in 2024.

Over those three seasons, the Southlake, Texas native has combined for 8,845 yards, 66 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Now, he and the Longhorns are gearing up for a CFP semifinal matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes. A victory would send Texas to its first national championship game since 2009.
