Every week the NFL releases fines from the previous week of action, and we see players who are reprimanded for a particular play or penalty. For the fines for week six, two former Notre Dame All-Americans were a part of the group that was penalized, and fined. Those two were Cleveland Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Seattle Seahawks safety Julian Love, both of which earned their first Pro Bowl honors last season.
They were the only pair of college teammates on the list this week,
Owusu-Koramoah, who was a All-American linebacker for the Irish, and a Butkus Award winner, was fined $20,900 for an unnecessary roughness penalty that was centered around an illegal use of his helmet against the Philadelphia Eagles last week. The play occurred during the second quarter at the 11:30 mark of that contest.
The fondly nicknamed “JOK” has been off to a fast start this season, collecting 47 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, and an interception in just six games. If he keeps that pace, Owusu-Koramoah would put together his finest season. He led all off ball linebackers with 20 tackles for loss last season.
Love was also fined for an unnecessary roughness penalty this past week, his centering around an illegal low block. It occurred during the third quarter at the 7:44 mark against the San Francisco 49ers. His fine was for $11,817 total.
After beginning his career as a cornerback for the New York Giants, Love has found a home as one of the better safeties in the entire league. He signed a free agent contract with the Seahawks prior to the 2023 season, and has been a massive steal so far. During his Pro Bowl season last year, Love collected 123 total tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
