Florida Gators lose transfer portal commitment to bitter rival who had a path to starting lineup
The Florida Gators have done a great job recruiting both in the high school ranks and the transfer portal. Head coach Billy Napier has been recruiting his butt off, especially in the state of Florida where the Gators had five of the top 10 high school recruits in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
The impact quarterback DJ Lagway has had on recruiting can’t be overstated. His gravity has made a humungous impact in getting the roster to a better place, but it hasn’t been a cure all.
Florida Gators lose transfer portal commit
Tuesday afternoon brought unfortunate news for the 2025 squad. Just two days after committing to the Gators, former UAB safety Adrian Maddox flipped his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Gators were looking to fortify their safety room for the upcoming season, as current starter Aaron Gates is recovering from a knee injury.
Maddox has one year of eligibility remaining and would have provided solid depth for the Gators. He made 44 tackles, two forced fumbles, broke up seven passes, and returned his only interception for a touchdown at UAB this past season.
The Gators will hopefully find another safety to fortify the position this offseason.
