Former Clemson Defender Transfers to Another ACC Team

Despite his expanding role with the Clemson Tigers during the 2024 season, EDGE AJ Hoffler entered the transfer portal on December 26 and committed to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

Last season, Hoffler contributed 12 total tackles in limited action but appeared in every game for the Tigers. As a true freshman in 2023, he contributed six tackles.

The Stuart, Florida native attended high school in Atlanta at Woodward Academy. He chose Clemson as part of the 2023 recruiting class with offers from North Carolina, Ohio State, Auburn and others. He was the No. 289 ranked player per On3Sports in that class and rated a four-star recruit.

Fifteen players have entered the transfer portal from Georgia Tech, but the program has added 14 players. On3Sports ranks the Yellow Jackets as 58th out of 70 FBS programs in their transfer portal team rankings.

The three highest-rated incoming transfers per On3Sports are EDGE Brayden Manley (Mercer), cornerback Kelvin Hill Jr. (UAB) and linebacker Melvin Jordan (Oregon State).

The Yellow Jackets’ biggest departure was wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., ranked No. 2 overall in On3Sports’ transfer portal player rankings.

In his two seasons at Georgia Tech, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound wideout out of Douglasville, Georgia collected 104 receptions for 1,468 yards and nine touchdowns, plus another 140 yards rushing and a touchdown. He committed to Auburn on December 23.

Hoffler is Georgia Tech’s highest-rated incoming transfer based on a player’s rating as a recruit out of high school.
