Celtics expected to offload potential star due to luxury tax concerns image

The Boston Celtics are probably the best team on paper in the NBA, and with that comes monetary concerns. With such a high payroll, the C’s find themselves under the second apron of the luxury tax, which will cost them big money next season. So, they need to cut some payroll, and according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Jaden Springer would be the first to go.

Springer is probably the best young player the Celtics have, and has a ton of potential to be great. Currently, he is only averaging 2 points and a rebound this season, but that’s due to the fact he barely plays. When he does, he shows flashes of greatness.

Springer commands a $4 million dollar salary, and for someone who barely plays, it’s quite a bit. There are quite few suitors for Springer, but all of them are projected to send back one second-rounder. Seeing how desperate the C’s are to shed payroll, they would probably take it.

Hopefully, the Celtics can get rid of a big contract, such as Jrue Holiday, since he has been underperforming. However, if Springer has to go, he has to go. The Celtics need to lower their payroll, or face serious consequences.
