After Samuel Montembeault a few days ago, it is now Mike Matheson’s turn to receive a sad verdict.
Yes, it is sad to see how the players of the Montreal Canadiens are not respected in the National Hockey League.
The verdict just came in regarding the ranking of the top 80 defensemen in the NHL published by JFresh, and Matheson ranks… 68th.
It’s unbelievable.
Mike Matheson, the 68th best defenseman in the NHL?
Let’s recall that he finished as the 9th highest scoring defenseman in the National Hockey League in 2023-2024 (62 points in 82 games).
Clearly, that did not convince the 2896 respondents:
You can find the complete ranking just above.
Seeing names like Brady Skjei, Matt Roy, Sean Durzi, and others so far ahead of Matheson is completely ridiculous.
I like Rasmus Sandin and Simon Nemec, but they have absolutely proven nothing in the NHL at this stage, and there is absolutely no justification for placing them ahead of Mike Matheson.
In any case, it’s a sad observation, and let’s hope that the other NHL general managers don’t share the same opinion.
And according to you, does Mike Matheson deserve to be higher in this ranking?
