Castleford Tigers re-sign winger on loan from Super League club

Castleford Tigers have re-signed out of favour Hull KR winger Lee Kershaw on a two-week loan deal.

Kershaw spent a fortnight with the Tigers earlier this season, representing Danny McGuire’s side in round two against St Helens and the following week against Leeds Rhinos. However, he has now re-joined the club for two more weeks and he looks set to be involved on Saturday night when Castleford host Leigh Leopards.

He’ll also hope to be involved next week when the Tigers make the short journey across the M62 to Wakefield Trinity. The deal comes with Castleford short of numbers in the back line following the two-match suspension Innes Senior picked up for his high tackle on Cade Cust last time out.

The Tigers have won just one game all season and after six games played, they sit 10th in the Super League table. As such, they’ll be hoping to put more points on the board as a matter of urgency and McGuire will be keen to see Kershaw help the Tigers get over the line.

The winger joined Hull KR from London Broncos over the off-season and so far he has made just one appearance for the club. That came in the 40-0 Challenge Cup win over Oldham at Craven Park and he managed to mark it with a try.

The Robins aren’t short of options in the outside backs, with Joe Burgess and Tom Davies nailing down the wing spots at present. But, Kershaw knows head coach Willie Peters will be watching and he’ll be striving to use his loan at Castleford Tigers to catch the eye and strengthen his case for game time in east Hull.

The 25-year-old started his career with Wakefield Trinity, making 50 appearances for the club before moving on to join London for the 2024 season. He caught the eye in the capital, scoring seven tries in 26 outings, and that saw him earn the move to Craven Park on a two-year deal.
