NFL Announcement Is Bad News for Ole Miss Legend Eli Manning

The NFL Honors show took place on Thursday evening in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Not only were the 2024 season’s individual honors handed out at the event, but the league inducted four members into the NFL Hall of Fame, forever enshrining them in football history in Canton, Ohio.

The 2025 Hall of Fame class was headlined by Antonio Gates, Sterling Sharpe, Jared Allen, and Eric Allen, but more notable to some were the players who barely missed the cut. Legendary Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Eli Manning was one such player, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants who was not voted in during his first year on the ballot.

Manning, the younger brother of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning, had a highly successful NFL career but it was not deemed to be enough in the eyes of the voters in 2025. As a two-time Super Bowl MVP and four-time Pro Bowler, Manning’s omission puzzled fans and analysts alike.

When he spoke Friday with NFL Network’s Jamie Erdhal on “Good Morning Football” Manning quickly shut down any notion that he was upset by the committee’s decision. “I’m excited for those guys that got in. All of them are so deserving,” Manning said about the four inductees. “I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be my night, and I understand that. I’m totally at peace. It’s not gonna change my outlook on my career and how I feel about it.”

His biggest accomplishment on the field was not just winning those two Super Bowls, but it was who he took down in those games. Manning and the Giants beat the New England Patriots in both appearances, denying the game’s greatest player, Tom Brady, and what many feel is the greatest NFL roster ever assembled in Super Bowl XLII.

None of the men inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2025 were chosen on their first attempt, in fact, Eric Allen waited 19 years and Sharpe waited for over 30. Manning should get into the Hall of Fame at some point, but it could be a ways down the road.
