Owner of Super Bowl team interested in buying Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics have been trying to sell their team for a while now, but no suitors have made themselves truly known they really want to buy the team. However, a new suitor no one expected has made himself known: Jeffrey Lurie, the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles (via Bill Simmons).
Lurie bought the Eagles back in 1994, and since then he has made them from a laughingstock to a powerhouse of a team. In his time as owner, the Eagles have made the playoffs 19 times, made the NFC championship eight times, and made the Super Bowl four times.
For the Celtics, Lurie seems like a great owner. Unlike the main suitors people thought would buy the Celtics, the Fenway Sport Group, the Eagles are ready to pay whatever to always try to win.
Of all options made available, Lurie seems like a great option. It might be even better if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, as it might influence Lurie to ride the wave and go for broke to get the Celtics.
Hopefully, if Lurie does buy the C’s, he treats them like he does the Eagles, and they stay as competitive as they’ve almost always been.
