Former Titans star receiver A.J. Brown helps Eagles dominate the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans traded receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 18th and 101st overall picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. On Sunday night, Brown played a critical role in securing Philadelphia’s 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
It is the Eagles’s second championship in franchise history and third Super Bowl appearance in the last seven seasons.
Titans still chasing play-makers in years after trading A.J. Brown
Tennessee, who had repeatedly said that they were not considering trading Brown at the time, used the 18th overall pick on Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks.
“At the end of the day, we have to make — I have to make — the hard decisions,” then-Titans general manager Jon Robinson said on the night of the trade. “And there’s a lot of things that impact those decisions. Certainly, the finances impact the decisions and trying to get value when we can. And that’s the decision we made today.”
Burks’ tenure has been an unending disaster. Multiple knee strains, two concussions and, most recently, an ACL repair have robbed him of critical time needed for him to develop as an NFL receiver. Burks has appeared in only 27 of a possible 51 regular season games (52.9%).
The Titans placed Burks on Injured Reserve this season with a non-contact knee injury he sustained in practice.
Brown caught three passes for 44 yards and a touchdown reception in Super Bowl LIX. Brown has missed only five regular season games since leaving Tennessee. His receiving totals, including regular season and playoffs, are 286 receptions for 4,340 yards and 28 receiving scores.
“I told myself going into this weekend: ‘Make sure that (Eagles) green confetti is falling,'” Brown told Dianna Russini from The Athletic after the win.
Robinson was fired eight months after the trade and, coming off of a 3-14 season in 2025, Tennessee is still chasing offensive play-makers.
Holding the No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft might finally start to reverse those fortunes.
