Rodgers’s time with the Jets hasn’t been anything like they envisioned after trading for him in 2023. His first season was spent on the sidelines due to a torn Achilles, and his second fell way below expectations.
According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, the team is “unlikely to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback in 2025.”
Aaron Rodgers Could Also Retire This Year
While a decision hasn’t been confirmed and additional discussions are to take place, Rodgers’ stint in New York is thought to be all but over.
The Jets went 5-12 with the four-time MVP starting for them during the season, and it’s reported that the team owner came close to benching him in favor of Tyrod Taylor at one point.
Rodgers is also considering retirement, a decision he said he would make soon as he doesn’t want to keep anyone waiting.
UPDATE: FOX’s Jay Glazer has since reported that the Jets told Rodgers they plan to move on from him after he flew to New York to discuss his future with the team.
“Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play. It just won’t be for the Jets,” the insider added.
