The New York Rangers didn’t make a huge splash this off-season, but he did trade for Reilly Smith and signed free-agent Sam Carrick.
Rangers veteran Chris Kreider is already excited about Smith’s arrival in New York, and Jacob Trouba has been asked about the acquisitions.
“He’s a great player. Playing against him for a long time, you know how good he can be. I obviously know Brendan. Everyone has crossed paths with one of the two at some point, it feels like. I met (Reilly) at the rink last week, a week and a half ago. He’s excited to be here. We’re excited to have him,” Trouba said to The Athletic.
Smith is a former Stanley Cup winner and could be the spark that the Rangers offense needs in the upcoming season.
With the Penguins, Smith scored 40 points(13 G, 27 A) in 76 games another 40 point clip, they could use this season.
Trouba is eager to play on the same squad as Center Sam Carrick as well:
“Another good player. He made a pretty big impact toward the end of last year. Reached out to him, welcomed him in a little bit. I heard a lot of great things about him, so he’ll be good for our team as well,” Trouba said.
Carrick scored 16 points( 10 G, 6 A) in 77 games, with the Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers.
Trouba reached out to both of his new teammates, despite all rumors about the trade deals. It shows a commitment to leadership qualities, any team should hope a Captain would have.
Trouba’s a professional, and a leader and his character is on display for all of us to see.
