Possible landing spot for Ohio State transfer portal QB Devin Brown could be becoming clear ahead of Rose Bowl
Not every transfer takes the same approach when they enter the portal after the regular season. Some athletes decided to finish up bowl season with their current team, some opted to focus on finding their landing spot.
Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown is taking the route of sticking around until it is over. The third-year quarterback is the Buckeyes’ backup to Will Howard and will be ready to step in if Ohio State needs him to during their College Football Playoff run.
Brown came out on X (Twitter) recently to let folks know that his focus is on the team in Columbus.
“Contrary to any reports, I haven’t committed to a school yet. I haven’t even visited a school. My focus is 100% on helping the Buckeyes win a national championship. Go Bucks!”
Is Ohio State QB Devin Brown heading out west?
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the California Golden Bears remain in the mix for Brown. Cal lost their starting quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who will play at Indiana next season. Transferring at this point in his career, Brown is going to be looking to land where he can start. There is a solid chance that Brown would indeed be the starter for the Golden Bears.
Brown has appeared in nine games this season with just 20 passing attempts. He has 114 passing yards and a touchdown to his name. Last season, Brown threw two touchdowns as a backup for the Buckeyes.
Originally from Utah, it would not be a surprise to see Brown head back out west as many do. A former top-50 player in the class of 2022 should have multiple suitors. Though Brown hasn’t played a ton in Columbus, his time with a program like Ohio State will help him wherever he ends up.
Julian Sayin figures to start for the Buckeyes next season and five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair will be a freshman next season. Lincoln Kienholz has not made it known if he will return to Columbus or not, but he would be the other quarterback in the room if so.
Ohio State takes on Oregon in the Rose Bowl at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, which would be Brown’s last game with the Buckeyes if they were to lose.
