AP Poll voters can’t stay consistent as Florida Basketball drops behind Duke

Florida went 2-0 last week and was still dropped in the rankings

One weird phenomenon that has been happening for the past couple of weeks is the wide range of media personalities who seem to discount Florida Basketball. Everyone acknowledges how good the Gators are, but when the topic of who can actually win the national title comes up everyone seems to think Auburn and Duke are the only two true contenders.

To further this theory of disrespect, the Gators just went 2-0 last week and won both games by at least 14 points, and were still just dropped in the AP Poll.

Florida Basketball: Duke Or Nothing

Florida has been dropped to 3rd in the AP Poll after beating Oklahoma by 22 points and LSU by 14 points. That’s down one spot from last week, as the Gators were leapfrogged by Duke for the number two ranking.

Duke had a solid week in their own right, beating Virginia by 18 points before smashing Illinois 110-67 on Sunday.

If you are keeping score at home, Florida beat Virginia by 18 points earlier this season, too. If you are still keeping score, Florida won both games this week without the services of Alex Condon.

Squashing Illinois is certainly respectable, but they are on a three-game losing streak and are in 8th place in the Big Ten.

In the end, it is all semantics, but it confirms that certain entities are far more quick to praise Duke than they will ever be to praise Florida.

The endgame goal for the Gators is a number one seed, and the common belief is that Auburn and Duke are near locks for a number one seed while Florida is still having to close strong to beat out Houston, Tennessee, and Alabama.

The Gators will take on Georgia this week before hosting College Gameday, with Texas A&M coming to town. If Florida can win those two, the Gators will have a chance to essentially lock up a number one seed next week against Alabama.
