The young San Jose Sharks forward, Will Smith, believes that Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens pulled off one of the steals of the 2023 draft.
There has been a lot of talk about the possible acquisition of young goaltender Yaroslav Askarov by Kent Hughes, but we must not forget that the Habs already have a very promising prospect in net within their organization.
Jacob Fowler is one of the steals of the 2023 draft, according to San Jose Sharks forward Will Smith
Will Smith, who played with Jacob Fowler at Boston College Eagles over the past year, is unequivocal.
Fowler, who won the Mike Richter Award, given to the NCAA Goaltender of the Year, received high praise from Smith.
“I think he will be one of the steals of this draft,” said Will Smith bluntly in a hallway of the Washington Capitals’ training facility. “He’s a safe bet. I don’t think people realize how good he is.”
The Sharks’ fourth overall pick in 2023 has high hopes for Fowler.
“I’ve never felt as comfortable with a goalie behind me,” he added.
Another excellent young forward, Cutter Gauthier, echoed this sentiment, saying he always felt reassured as a player knowing Jacob Fowler was there to correct mistakes.
“He’s probably the best goalie I’ve played with,” emphasized Gauthier, a prospect for the Anaheim Ducks.
Jacob Fowler is definitely a name to watch with the Montreal Canadiens .
Personally, as a goaltender myself, I place great importance on statements like these, which come directly from players who have played with or against the goalie in question (whether in practice or game situations).
Expert opinions are always important, but when it comes from players, it definitely adds an extra layer.
Fowler, 19 years old, was the 69th overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2023 (third round) and is about to start his second season in the NCAA.
