Brad Brownell’s Clemson Basketball Shatters Records But Still Underrated.

Clemson basketball is doing what it always does—winning. Yet, as the Tigers continue stacking victories in what has been a historic season, many still overlook them as a legitimate NCAA Tournament threat. At 24-5 and 16-2 in the ACC, Clemson is putting together one of its greatest seasons ever. They have wins over Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia, yet they remain under the radar heading into March Madness.

The Tigers check every box of a dangerous tournament team. Clemson’s defense has been a major factor, holding opponents to just 66.8 points per game in ACC play. Five different players have led Clemson in scoring this season, making them tough to game-plan against. Led by veterans Chase Hunter and PJ Hall, Clemson has the experience needed for March. The Tigers have repeatedly found ways to win tough games, including overcoming a 10-point deficit at Virginia—their largest comeback of the season.

Saturday’s 20-2 second-half run to overcome Virginia on the road was just the latest reminder that Clemson is a force to be reckoned with. The Tigers are now just one win shy of tying the program record for regular-season victories (25), set in 1986-87. Clemson’s dominance this year is backed by hard numbers. The Tigers have 14 double-digit ACC wins, the most ACC wins in a single season with 16, and only one loss since late January. Individual records are also falling. Chase Hunter is now Clemson’s all-time wins leader, while Ian Schieffelin continues climbing the rebounding charts.

Despite their dominance, Clemson continues to be overlooked in the national conversation. But that’s nothing new. This program thrives when people doubt them. With one more regular-season game left, Clemson has a chance to match or break its all-time best record before heading into the ACC Tournament. Whether or not the national media gives them the respect they deserve, the Tigers are proving they are built for a deep run in March. With the ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament looming, the Tigers are positioned to shock the nation—just like they always do.
