Former Blue-Chip Recruit at Texas Makes Surpsing Position Change

The Texas Longhorns have a problem that every program across the country dreams of, which is having a roster flooded with talent.

The Longhorns have made it to two consecutive conference titles, one in their final year in the Big 12, which they won, and one this past season in the SEC. They have also appeared in the last two College Football Playoffs. To experience this kind of success requires talent, and the Longhorns have much of it.

So much so that former four-star wide receiver Ryan Niblett, who already moved to running back this past season, is switching to Texas’ “star” position on defense.

The move was first reported by Inside Texas’ Eric Nahlin, and it is unknown if it will be permanent, but per Nahlin, the Longhorns want to see Niblett’s speed on the defensive side of the field.

This past season, Niblett made three catches for 24 yards, and carried the ball eight times for 23 yards and a touchdown, which came against Louisiana Monroe. The move makes sense considering Texas’ running back is packed with talent, with CJ Baxter returning from injury, Tre Wisner who had a productive year and Jerrick Gibson who the staff called on in some big moments.

As a recruit, Niblett ranked as the No. 64 player in the country according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings
