LSU Women’s Basketball Dominates Florida In First Round Of SEC Tournament
The LSU Tigers Women’s Basketball team faced off with the 11-seed Florida Gators in the first round of the 2025 SEC Tournament.
The Tigers dominated the Gators, 101-87 to advance to the SEC semifinals on Saturday night. Here’s how it happened:
The Tigers were without junior star, Flau’jae Johnson, but it didn’t matter. They pounced on the Gators early, taking a 14-5 lead just 5.5 minutes into the game. Aneesah Morrow led the way early, scoring eight points on 4-for-5 shooting prior to the first media timeout. By the end of the first quarter, LSU’s lead had grown to 10 points and Morrow had already reached double-digits with 10 points.
The Gators kept it close in the early portion of the second quarter, but LSU ran away with it before halftime, taking a 19-point lead into the break. Morrow continued to dominate, scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the first half while Mikaylah Williams added on eight more points.
The Tigers kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter as they dropped 25 points on the Gators, including 14 by Morrow herself, to take a 78-62 lead over the Gators into the final frame. In the fourth, the Tigers put the Gators away, scoring 23 points to take home the win.
Aneesah Morrow was easily the player of the game. After she was snubbed of SEC Player of the Year earlier this week, Morrow dropped 36 points on 15-for-21 shooting on the Gators head’s. Her 36 points are the most by a LSU player in a SEC Tournament game.
Mikaylah Williams, Miracle Sheppard and Kailyn Gilbert all contributed with double-digit points, scoring 16, 12 and 10 respectively. With Flau’jae out, LSU needed some others to step up, and Sheppard and Gilbert answered the call.
It was smooth sailing for the Tigers in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Now they prepare for a rematch against second-seeded Texas Longhorns tomorrow night.
