The Leafs continue to scour the market for an upgrade at center with the trade deadline now less than a month away. As asking prices increase, the Leafs are still expected to make a major move, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger, who was a guest on “OverDrive” on Wednesday night.
“I’m looking at the Toronto Maple Leafs because you can see the needs in Toronto. They’re a really good team, but I don’t remember the East being as open as it is right now in a long, long time…Toronto has to bring in a centerman. I’d put Toronto pretty high on the list of intriguing teams looking to make a deal.”
While everyone expects the Leafs to make a trade, Dreger also noted that fans may have to wait longer than expected given the sky-high asking prices and limited assets available. He also mentioned that those asking prices will likely come down closer to the deadline, which is why the Leafs haven’t jumped the gun.
“The prices aren’t probably coming down until you get closer to March 7th.”
While fans will be happy to hear Treliving isn’t going to mortgage the future for a 3C, they also don’t want the Leafs to miss out on a top target because another team was a little quicker to pull the trigger.
The good news for Leafs Nation is that the organization is definitely heavily involved in the trade market and that the team should improve at or before the deadline. Now, we just have to wait and see who they bring in and how high a price they’re willing to pay.
