David Pollack Reveals If Rising SEC Program Can Win the College Football Playoff
The 2024 college football season marked a significant year for several emerging programs in the sport, demonstrating that their previous successful seasons were not just a one-time occurrence but indicative of sustained progress.
This was especially true for the Missouri Tigers. Before the 2023 season, the Tigers had not won nine games or more since 2014 and were coming off four consecutive non-winning seasons. However, they excelled in head coach Eli Drinkwitz’s fourth year, finishing with an impressive 11-2 record and winning the Cotton Bowl.
With such a successful 2023, the Tigers were under a lot of pressure in 2024 to prove that their performance was not a fluke but a sign of ongoing improvement. They met this challenge by finishing the season with a record of 10-3 and winning the Music City Bowl.
On his YouTube channel, “David Pollack College Football,” college football analyst David Pollack discussed whether he believes Missouri can get over the hump and ultimately win the College Football Playoff.
“They’ve had some good years,” Pollack said. “Gary Pinkel had a great run. Got to SEC championships. This is a harder deal to do now with 12 than with four or two. You’ve got to put together a bigger run and beat better teams. Even better than the other ones. I just, I don’t think so. I’m not saying ‘yes’ with Missouri.”
The Tigers have won 673 games in their program’s history and 12 conference championships. However, they have yet to secure a national championship. While Missouri appears to be a program on the rise, Pollack isn’t convinced they are ready to be considered a national championship contender.
