Otega Oweh has strong words after UK’s big road win over Mizzou

#00 has proven to be a warrior in his first year in Lexington.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats.

After experiencing an abundance of early season success, a slew of injuries put Kentucky’s season in jeopardy of collapsing at the absolute worst time.

However, this team has proven time and time again that they can rise to the moment and deliver in big games.

UK’s impressive 91-83 win on the road in Columbia was a reminder of just how dangerous this roster can be even without the availability of Jaxson Robinson.

On Saturday, it was Otega Oweh’s efforts that willed Kentucky to a victory over the 15th-ranked Missouri Tigers on their home floor.

Oweh poured in 22 points on 6/17 shooting, including two made 3-point baskets. He continues to act as the heart and soul of this team.

After the game, Oweh talked to Goose Givens on the postgame radio show, proclaiming that the gritty Wildcats we saw Saturday are, in fact, their true identity.

“We have to try and obviously embrace that we’re at Kentucky, but then remember what got us here, and it’s that chip and that intensity. So this is really us,” he stated.

UK did an excellent job at converting Missouri mishaps into points on the other end. The Tigers turned the ball over 10 times, translating into 20 points for the road team.

It’s hard to imagine a scenario where the Cats make a deep run in the SEC Tournament or NCAA Tournament without receiving stellar play from Oweh. His impact goes well beyond his 16.8 points per game scoring average. Whenever a boost is needed, it’s usually #00 that answers the bell.

Oweh has proven that he can be the best player on the floor, even against the best competition in America.

Every game from here on out the pressure will only build and build, so buckle up.
