Soon after helping lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 on Sunday, running back Saquon Barkley reached out to one of his former teammates — New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
While Barkley erupted for 147 rushing yards (his most since November 2022) and two touchdowns on just 17 carries, Jones had arguably his best game in 20 months.
With the assistance of a historic performance by rookie wideout Malik Nabers, Danny Dimes propelled the G-Men to their first win of the campaign in a 21-15 road upset of the Cleveland Browns. Jones was up to the task against a tough defense, finishing 24-of-34 for 236 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, equaling a 109.4 passer rating.
It was the Duke product’s highest number of passing yards over his last seven games, dating back to Week 2 last season, and his best passer rating since New York’s NFC wild-card playoff win vs. the Minnesota Vikings in January 2023.
For now, Jones has cooled off his hot seat as Big Blue’s starting signal-caller.
Barkley and the Eagles will travel to MetLife Stadium in less than one month when the Giants host their NFC East rivals in Week 7 on Oct. 20. That will be the two-time Pro Bowler’s first time facing his former team since signing with Philadelphia in March.
