Carter Does not Want to run a 40 Ever Again Former Clemson LB pleased with his performance on Thursday

CLEMSON — Barrett Carter is glad his preparation for Pro Day is over.

“I am kind of glad I do not have to run a forty (yard dash) again,” he joked following Clemson’s Pro Day at the Poe Indoor Practice Facility.

The former Clemson linebacker ran a 4.61 in the 40 on Thursday. It was not exactly the time he was hoping for, but he was satisfied with the time he pulled.

“I thought today was solid,” Carter said. “Even if I ran the best I ever had or had the most reps, I would still be pissed off. I still would not be satisfied. It is a blessing to be here. It is a blessing to have this opportunity.”

Thursday was the first time Carter ran the 40 in this process, after holding out at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. He said his agent told him not to run at the combine.

“I just talked to my agent and it was something that he decided to save for pro day,” Carter said. “After hearing what I ran today, I am good with that. At the end of the day, I am a football player. The tape speaks for itself.”

Depending on who you look at in terms of mock drafts, Carter is listed as the No. 4 linebacker in the draft, which is why Thursday was so important to him and his draft position.

“I am definitely happy with today. I happy with the work I have put in,” he said. “I got out to California on Jan. 2, and, from that time to today, I have been working every day.

“It is cool that I saw all that hard work pay off today. There is definitely work still to be done.”

The next step for Carter and the rest of the Tigers who worked out are team interviews and private workouts before April’s NFL Draft.

In his conversations with NFL teams, Carter says he has heard different things on where teams will use him.

“I have heard inside (backer). I have heard outside. I have heard about playing dime in certain packages. I have heard a bunch of things,” he said. “So depending on the team and depending on their needs, it just depends. I have heard a whole bunch of things.

“I think with my intelligence, I can come in and learn different spots and play in different spots in their defense. They have been telling me different positions.”

Carter says he has spoke with roughly 28 teams, with a few that have reached out for more conversations.

Carter was not the only former Tiger working out at Pro Day. Tight end Jake Briningstool and defensive tackle Payton Page also ran and did drills too. The results from the NFL Combine and the Clemson Pro Day are below.
