ACC, Phillips Reach out to Clemson Regarding Locker Room Incident

CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Brad Brownell spoke to the ACC about Friday night’s locker room incident, which had the Tigers locked out of their own locker room during halftime of their ACC Tournament Semifinal game against Louisville.

Brownell said he got a call from ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips on Saturday night, but Phillips did not give an explanation on why the Tigers were locked out of their locker room for over four minutes.

“No. I did get a call from Jim Phillips last night. I was appreciative of him reaching out and apologizing,” Brownell said after the Tigers were selected as a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. “I expect that, Jim has been very professional with me throughout my time here. Obviously, I talked with Bryan Kersey, who is the officials’ coordinator, and expressed my displeasure on a few things, but those are in the past now. We need to look forward to the NCAA Tournament.”

Kersey is the ACC’s Supervisor of Men’s Basketball Officiating.

The ACC still has not released anything or told Clemson anything on what caused the Tigers to be locked out of its locker room.

The Clemson Insider asked several ACC officials for any information on what happened with the locker room incident after it happened.

The ACC did not give an official response as to what happened. However, sources inside the ACC told TCI the league is not sure why the door was locked. There was security outside every locker room.
