National media outlet ranks the top players in the NCAA Tournament; where Tennessee Vols guard Chaz Lanier lands in rankings
Ahead of the NCAA Tournament, On3 ranked the top 25 players that will be competing in the big dance.
Tennessee Vols guard Chaz Lanier, who transferred to UT after spending the first four seasons of his career at North Florida, comes in at No. 9 in On3’s rankings.
From On3: When Chaz Lanier has been good this year, he has been really good. When he has been bad, he has still been good. Lanier is a three-point marksman, averaging 8.8 attempts per game from beyond the arc. He led the SEC in threes made this season and it is the gravity that he pulls in the half-court that opens up the Tennessee offense.
Oddly enough, Vols point guard Zakai Zeigler wasn’t included in On3’s rankings of the top 25 players in the NCAA Tournament.
Zeigler, however, was named an AP third team All-American on Tuesday while Lanier was named as an honorable mention.
Lanier has been as advertised this season for the Volunteers.
The Nashville native is averaging 17.7 points per game this season while connecting on 40 percent of his three-point attempts.
Tennessee will certainly need Lanier to play his best basketball in March if the program is going to reach the Final Four for the first time in program history.
