Fans React to Ohio State’s Historic Rose Bowl Announcement
The No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes took the field for a highly-anticipated College Football Playoff matchup against the No. 1 seed Oregon Ducks on New Year’s Day.
Earlier in the 2024 college football season, Oregon got the better of Ohio State with a 32-31 final score at Autzen Stadium. But in this quarterfinal matchup at the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes came out on top with a dominant 41-21 victory.
The Rose Bowl always provides an exciting environment and viewing experience, but this year’s game had a little extra buzz.
On Saturday morning, the Ohio State football program announced some historic viewership numbers for this College Football Playoff clash.
This Rose Bowl contest drew 21.1 million viewers with a peak at 24.3 million, making it the most-viewed quarterfinal of this year’s expanded 12-team College Football Playoff field.
“Put on a show,” Ohio State Football wrote on X.
Fans took to the comments to react to this announcement.
“Stock goes up when you’re a [Buckeye] #NumbersDon’tLie,” one wrote.
“Biggest Brand in the land!” another said.
“All eyes on the Buckeyes, per usual,” another added.
“NFL type numbers,” another wrote.
Next, Ohio State will face off against another massive national brand in the No. 5 seed Texas Longhorns. Given the draw of these two powerhouse programs, this semifinal matchup should bring in some more impressive viewership numbers.
The Buckeyes will face off against the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl at 7:30 p.m. EST on Friday, Jan. 10.
