Charles Barkley lets everyone know how he feels after his Auburn Tigers beat Alabama State in the NCAA Tournament
The Auburn Tigers have one of the best basketball programs in the world right now. Sure, people can make fun of the fact that their average age is older than the youngest team in the NBA — whatever. But, you can’t argue they can play ball.
They have been at or near the top for some time now, consistently being one of the best teams in the country year after year. But, you can’t claim the crown of the ultimate basketball program if you can’t win the big one. For the Auburn Tigers, their Final-Four appearance in 2019, and a loss at that, has haunted them ever since. they can’t get back to the Final Four, and the one time they were there, they couldn’t get over the hump.
After the win over Alabama State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, it’s clear this team has what it takes to win it all, but that’s only if they play the way we all know they’re capable of playing. As of right now, they’re not doing that. They beat Alabama State by 20, but it certainly felt closer than that.
One of the biggest supporters, and most famous Auburn Tiger personalities there is, let everyone know exactly how he felt after the game.
“I’m not worried at all America,” Charles Barkley said after the game with his feet up on the desk before grilling his former team. “You have to play. You can’t just show up and expect to win. Alabama State has nothing to lose… When you’re a higher seed, you’ve got to come out there and jump on them… I’m disappointed with Auburn’s energy level.”
We all know Barkley can say some pretty wild things, but he hit the nail on the head with this one — the Tigers have to show up better against Creighton. If they play the same way they did, Creighton could run away with it.
