Florida Issues 3-Word Message After Ending UConn’s 3-Peat Dreams
The Florida Gators managed to avoid a significant upset on Sunday afternoon, as they sent the reigning champion UConn Huskies packing with a 77-75 victory to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. And in the wake of their big win, the team issued a three-word message after crushing UConn’s dreams of a three-peat.
After coasting past the Norfolk State Spartans in their first-round matchup, the difficulty was increased significantly for the Gators against the Huskies. After trailing for a long stretch of the second half, though, they rallied late to finish UConn off, with head coach Todd Golden praising his team’s resolve down the stretch of this win.
“This is a great win for our program,” Golden said. “The time was now for us to take that next step. Again, Florida basketball, back where it belongs. Being in the Sweet 16 is a great step in the right direction … We made winning play after winning play down the stretch in the last six minutes.”
Even though the Huskies had a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, eliminating them was always going to be easier said than done for the Gators. But they managed to do it, and immediately after the win, Florida sent a strong three-word message on social media that will surely get their fans hyped.
“SWEET SIXTEEN BOUND,” the Gators excitedly said in a post on X.
With this win, Florida is advancing to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2017, as they continue to look to win their first championship since 2007. The Gators will now wait to find out who their next opponent is, as they will face either the Maryland Terrapins or the Colorado State Rams in their upcoming game.
