The San Francisco 49ers can take a sigh of relief. They were nothing but dominant against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night in a must-win game. Despite the win, the critics still huddled the 49ers QB with some criticism. Questions like, ‘should he play a coverage where two players were on him‘ were asked. But no one can deny—Brock Purdy showed his true colors at Lumen Field in Week 6.
255 yards, three TDs, and no pick. This athletic performance took his team from 2 -3 to 3-3. And guess what, an NFL Insider has some juicy details about Purdy’s contract. Purdy’s performance was the talk of the town after the game. On the talk show, ‘The Herd,’ Albert Breer praised him, saying, “We’ve seen a guy who can go out and make plays on his own. You see the scramble plays, you see him churning out first downs with his legs.” Well, that’s some heavy praise for the QB.
The Monday Morning Quarterback got some inside scoop from HC Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers are planning to pay Purdy after the year. Breer quoted, “I think what I know is that they are planning on paying after the year. Kyle said as much to me over the summer… He said we’ve been through that before with Jimmy Garoppolo. He became the highest-paid quarterback in football.” The head coach is very impressed with the young QB’s performance. And why not? He has put his best foot forward with players like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Deebo Samuel missing games due to injuries.
Breer is not one to hold back, and he further opined, “I don’t think Brock’s gonna be Tom Brady, but I do think there’s that piece of it where a guy doesn’t live down his draft position…this guy’s a really good player and a much better player than people have given him credit.” Seems like Purdy is in good books, but is this good enough to get a contract?
If this new info is anything to go by, Purdy will surely get what he deserves. Though he had a great game against the Seahawks, the journos still managed to hurl some difficult questions around the red zone to the HC. Well, in a typical Shanahan way, the HC tackled had some fitting answers ready.
Despite red zone troubles, Purdy’s ‘right in the corner’
Despite a dominant 36-24 win, the San Francisco 49ers had their share of struggles in the red zone. Brock Purdy too admitted them after the game. When asked about the difficult throws and the QB’s struggles, Shanahan said, “The first one was awesome. That was a long third down. We were obviously struggling in the red zone to make a big play like that. I think it was third and goal from I want to say the 10, but that was huge. It was a dime right in the corner… He went across the board and had a hell of a throw to George.” The coach wasn’t in favor of dousing his boys’ momentum.
Mr. Irrelevant is certainly on top. Till week 6, he has 1,629 passing yards with 9 TDs and a 110.5 rating. He made no mistake in the Thursday game. He covered 255 passing yards and made 3 TDs. Purdy said, “I feel like we did take a step in the right direction for sure and we’re always going to be hard on ourselves and need to grow and get better at, but I really do think that we all, as a team, came together and found a way that ended really well.” He must have nerves of steel!
Well, the team should cherish the high of the victory as they face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. Fans feel that Purdy will keep his momentum going but can he take revenge for the Super Bowl LVIII game?
