Another NFL player got moved three weeks before the trade deadline.
A busy Tuesday saw the New York Jets acquire Davante Adams and the Buffalo Bills land Amari Cooper. A notable running back is now also on the move.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Houston Texans and sending Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings. Houston will receive a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick for Akers and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick.
It’s the second straight season Akers will make a midseason move to Minnesota. Early in the 2023 campaign, the Los Angeles Rams sent Akers to the Vikings in a deal that also involved an exchange of conditional 2026 late draft picks.
Akers mustered 208 yards and a touchdown on 49 touches through six games with the Vikings last year. He last suited up for them in Week 9.
A Joe Mixon ankle injury gave Akers more opportunities in Houston this season, but the former second-round pick mustered 147 rushing yards on 40 carries. Akers played just two snaps when Mixon returned to amass 132 total yards and two touchdowns in a Week 6 win over the New England Patriots.
Since joining the NFL in 2020, Akers has tallied 2,064 yards and 14 scores in 41 career games. He surprisingly returned from an Achilles tear to handle a significant workload during the Rams’ successful 2021 Super Bowl run.
Minnesota acquired more depth behind Aaron Jones, who left Week 5’s London win over the New York Jets early with a hip injury. He practiced Monday, but his status for Sunday’s NFC North showdown with the Detroit Lions remains uncertain.
