Consensus No. 1 women’s recruit Aaliyah Chavez commits to Oklahoma

It’s a huge win for the Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball program. It’s perhaps one of the biggest recruiting wins the Sooners have ever seen, at least on the basketball court.

Aaliyah Chavez is the consensus No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, and she just announced her commitment to the Sooners on Tuesday.

Not only is the addition of a talent like Chavez big for Jennie Baranczyk and the Sooners, but the competition they beat for her commitment was stiff. Alongside the Sooners, she was considering LSU, Texas, Texas Tech, South Carolina and UCLA.

Those are some big-time women’s basketball programs, so the Sooners pulling off this win will be monumental for them moving forward. That’s not even to mention the fact that Chavez is from Lubbock, Texas, which is home to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The Sooners swooped Chavez straight out of the Red Raiders’ backyard.

Chavez, a 5-foot-9 guard, at Monterey High School finished her high school career with 4,796 points,1,279 rebounds and 771 assists.
