Florida Gators have chance to secure future at quarterback hosting elite prospect very similar to DJ Lagway

The recruiting trail for the Florida Gators is a major focus for head coach Billy Napier. They secured an elite linebacker in Izayia Williams earlier in March and an expert prediction to land another elite linebacker in Malik Morris.

The 2026 recruiting class right now is the focus for the Gators, but they are still working on future years as well, including at the quarterback position.

Florida Gators to host elite 2028 quarterback

One of the intriguing positions that the Gators are working to recruit is at quarterback. They have an emerging superstar in DJ Lagway who will be at the helm for at least the next two seasons, but after that, Napier needs to find someone to replace him.

They are looking into a succession plan for Lagway and right now, they are set to host an elite 2028 quarterback prospect Champ Monds on Thursday, March 27th.

This will be the second visit for Monds to Gainesville, as he was on campus February 1st as well. His first visit was a major success, as Monds spoke highly about it.

“It was a great experience,” Monds said. “I had a great time. I spent a lot of time with the coaches and had a great time overall. (What stood out was) the hospitality and how humble everybody is. They all treat you very well, every coach. I’ve talked to O-Line coaches, linebacker coaches, running backs coaches — they’re all nice even though I’m a quarterback. So that’s probably the main thing.”

Monds is a true dual-threat and is already 200 lbs at 6′-3 as a freshman in high school. Being from Port St. Lucie, Florida, keeping Monds in state will be a priority for the Gators, but with over 20 school having already offered him, it will be an uphill battle.
