Kim Mulkey Getting Praised For What She Did Before Sweet 16 Game

Coach Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers women’s basketball team are looking to get back to the Final Four for the first time since they won the national championship in 2023.

After cruising through the first two rounds in Baton Rouge, winning by a combined 85 points, Mulkey and No. 3 seed LSU advanced to the Sweet 16, where they will take on No. 2 seed NC State Wolfpack in Spokane, Washington on Friday night.

LSU and NC State met earlier this season on Nov. 27, when the Tigers won 82-65 in the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship Game.

Ahead of the Sweet 16 matchup, a photo was shared on social media of the entire LSU team boarding a plane to Spokane. Mulkey notably allowed her male practice players to join the team on their trip. The 2024-25 college basketball season marks “the first year the NCAA has allowed women’s basketball teams to travel with practice players on road trips for away games.”

And Mulkey took advantage right away.

College basketball fans appreciated Mulkey for bringing the practice players to the tournament, taking to social media to send her praise.

“Love this! Don’t think they are first to do it!” one fan said.

“Love it!,” wrote a second.

“Kim gets on my nerves but this is great!” added another.

“Making sure we ready!!” posted a fourth.

“This actually dope,” commented a fifth.

“This is actually so smart of LSU / Mulkey. Their preparation seems to take all things into consideration. Probably why they looked so dominant yesterday. I can see them making noise these next few sounds,” added a sixth.

Mulkey and LSU (30-5) go into Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup against NC State as 3.5-point favorites (ESPN BET). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. The winner will move on to the Elite Eight, where they will take on the winner of No. 1 overall seed UCLA and No. 5 seed Ole Miss.
