BREAKING: Michigan DB Selects New School in Transfer Portal
ANN ARBOR – After their recent victory in the ReliaQuest Bowl, the Michigan Wolverines have been on an absolute tear in the transfer portal, singing several talented players to bolster their 2025 championship aspirations. However, while the transfer portal has brought major talents to Michigan – such as Mikey Keene and Brady Norton – it has also taken one of their up-and-coming DBs.
Former Michigan defensive back Kody Jones has committed to Memphis, becoming the second Wolverines DB to join the Tigers through the transfer portal this offseason.
Jones, a former four-star recruit ranked No. 311 in the 2022 class and appeared in 11 games over three seasons for the Wolverines. In 2024, the Germantown, Tennessee native recorded six total tackles while splitting time between cornerback and safety positions.
The move reunites Jones with fellow Michigan transfer Myles Pollard, who committed to Memphis earlier this offseason. Both players are expected to have two years of eligibility remaining.
Jones’s departure adds to Michigan’s secondary exodus, as the Wolverines have lost Will Johnson, Aamir Hall, Quinten Johnson, Makari Paige, and Wesley Walker to graduation and/or the NFL Draft. These recent transfers mark a significant reshaping of Michigan’s defensive backfield heading into the 2025 season.
Jones, who came to Michigan as an athlete recruit, will return to his home state where he starred at Germantown High School. He and Pollard are expected to compete for starting roles in Memphis’s revamped secondary.
In light of this unfortunate news, we can expect Michigan to host some new DBs as soon as possible.
