The Toronto Blue Jays need to make some big moves in terms of their bullpen this off-season and it looks like San Diego Padres reliever Tanner Scott is at the top of the list.
The Blue Jays had a terrible season in general but their bullpen struggles were on another level as they had one of the worst rotations in baseball in 2024 which needs to change for next season if they plan on being competitive.
The Blue Jays plan on going after Tanner Scott during free agency
As free agency approaches, the Blue Jays and many other teams will be looking to improve their bullpen and it seems that RHP Tanner Scott is at the top of everyone’s list after an incredible 2024 season. Scott had a 1.75 ERA with 22 saves this season split between Miami and San Diego.
The Blue Jays are very interested in going after Scott as he could become their main closer with Chad Green and Genesis Cabrera becoming their next two options which would make a huge difference in their bullpen.
Whether that’s Tanner Scott or a trade, if the Blue Jays landed one elite reliever, they could aggressively attack the market with one-year deals. This front office has had success in that market in the past, and with a quantity approach, I’d expect they could uncover some value again. -Matheson
The reliever market this winter is filled with talent so if the Blue Jays do not end up getting Scott, there is also Yankees Clay Holmes, Phillies Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez, Red Sox Kenley Jansen.
Whichever route the Blue Jays end up taking in terms of improving their bullpen, they need to bring in big time arms to help becomes their current roster will not cut it.
