Reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler got into a little bit of a legal kerfuffle during the PGA Championship in Louisville last month. So you’d think he’d at least know the pronunciation of the place where he got arrested.
Speaking to reporters this week ahead of the Memorial Tournament in Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, Scheffler once again addressed the ongoing situation in Louisville. But golf insider Dan Rapaport noted something interesting – the way he said “Louisville.”
“Scottie Scheffler calls the city in which he was arrested “LEWIS-ville.” With the hard S,” Rapaport wrote.
For those unaware, the “S” is silent in Louisville and the first half of the name is pronounced “Louie” (think King Louis XVI of France or King Louie from The Jungle Book).
On second thought, maybe Scottie Scheffler did deserve to get arrested in Louisville if he’s going to pronounce the name of the city like that… (just kidding).
The U.S. Open is next week and as usual Scheffler ranks among the favorites to win the event and claim his second major of the year. Ironically, he had one of his best rounds of the season the day after his arrest, so clearly the stress isn’t getting him down.
Will Scheffler do in Dublin what he couldn’t do in Louisville?
