The Toronto Blue Jays are entertaining all options regarding shortstop Bo Bichette as they are listening to offers and looking at potential players to replace him such as Brewers free agent Willy Adames.
Bichette had a difficult 2024 season in which he had his worse season in terms of numbers at the plate to go along with quite a few injuries that kept his sidelined for the majority of the season.
Blue Jays looking to bring in either Willy Adames or Ha-seong Kim to replace Bo Bichette at Shortstop
The Blue Jays still seem unsure if Bichette will be moved prior to the season or if they will wait for his stock to hopefully go up a bit throughout the 2025 before moving him at the trade deadline but the chances of his re-signing in Toronto are slim.
If Bichette ends up leaving Toronto, the Blue Jays might look at signing one of the two top free agent shortstop on the market in Willy Adames or Ha-seong Kim.
Adames would be the obvious first choice since he would be exactly what the Blue Jays need in a solid defensive shortstop who can also crush the ball but he will not be cheap.
As lucrative as it’d be to sign Adames, the 29-year-old slugger is precisely what Toronto’s offence requires – more power. He would be just what the doctor ordered. As a two-time former 30-plus home-run threat, the right-handed-hitting infielder would slot in perfectly behind Guerrero as a middle-of-the-order thumper. Plus, he’s coming off a career year. -Hall
Kim on the other hand is one of the best defensive shortstops in the MLB but it not as consistent as Adames when it comes to hitting but has still put up decent numbers over the past few seasons.
At the end of the day, general manager Ross Atkins needs to figure out what he is doing with Bichette sooner rather than later since these two players will not sit on the market for very long.
