Florida Gators land massive in-state commitment, stealing them from bitter rival for huge boost to 2025 recruiting class

The Florida Gators have been hard at work on the recruiting trail, especially on the defensive side of the football. They landed top-ranked four-star linebacker Izayia Williams and an expert prediction for four-star linebacker Malik Morris.

The defensive side of the football has been a priority, especially the back seven where the Gators have been historically talented. That is coming to fruition more and more, especially on Monday night where head coach Billy Napier landed a commitment from four-star safety J’Vari Flowers from Miami.

Florida Gators land commitment from CB J’Vari Flowers

What’s important to note is that Flowers isn’t a 2026 prospect, but rather for 2025, as he reclassified. They beat out multiple power four institutions, including his hometown school of Miami (FL).

It’s a great addition for the depth of the Gators’ cornerback room, as Flowers is the 10th-ranked cornerback and 82nd-ranked prospect in the nation, according to On3 Sports. The Gators also landed Onis Konanbanny on National Signing Day and Southern Miss transfer Michael Caraway Jr. in the transfer portal to also help bolster the secondary over the last couple of months.

His scouting report from On3 Sports has a really good synopsis of his ability to elevate the Gators’ defense.

Elite athlete at corner who doubles as one of the top returners nationally. Measured at around 5-foot-10.5, 175 pounds in the offseason before the 2024 season. Reclassified late in the process, joining the 2025 cycle in January 2025. At top combine athlete who is also a star sprinter. Posted a scintillating 10.43-second mark in the 100 meters along with a 20.95-second time in the 200 meters. Has the speed to run with any receiver.

Good fluidity and is able to change directions well. Physical as a run defender and isn’t shy in lowering his shoulder. Closes quickly in defending the quick game. Dynamic return man who shows the ability to take kickoffs and punts to the house. A top talent with the ball in his hands.

Helped his Miami Northwestern team to a state title in his final season. Had a great week of practice at the Under Armour All-American Game, earning Top Performer status for On3. Slight of frame and not physically imposing. Will need to add strength. Has early round upside with physical development. — On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power

The Gators look like they got a good one.
