Arch Manning’s Surprising Decision Left Coaches ‘Pumped’
Arch Manning may come from college football royalty, but the decision that set him apart wasn’t about his name — it was about what he didn’t do.
In an era defined by transfer portal exits and massive NIL offers, Manning shocked many by staying put in Austin. Despite sitting behind Quinn Ewers for two full seasons, the former five-star quarterback never once tested the waters elsewhere. And now, with the Texas Longhorns preparing for life in the SEC, Arch Manning is finally QB1.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian recently joined the “Clean Pocket” podcast and revealed just how rare Manning’s path has been.
Sarkisian reflects on Manning’s patience
“I’m excited for him,” Sarkisian said. “He’s been patient. How many people have come after him from other schools to get him to transfer? He’s stayed the course and stayed true to his word, so we’re pumped about him.”
That loyalty didn’t come without temptation. Manning was a top recruit who could’ve started immediately for countless programs across the country — and likely earned a major payday in the process. But he stayed. And now, Sarkisian believes that experience will pay off.
Manning gained meaningful reps in two starts last season, including a win in Texas’ first-ever SEC matchup against Mississippi State. He finished the year with 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and four rushing scores — flashing the potential that made him one of the most hyped prospects in years.
With a road opener at Ohio State and Playoff expectations looming, Manning’s patience has officially given way to opportunity. And according to Sarkisian, he’s more than ready for it.
