Every Super League club’s current quota situation with 29 off-contract
With so many recent contract announcements, we’ve taken a look at every Super League club’s current quota situation, with a whopping 29 players off-contract at the end of 2025.
The current rule allows each club to have up to seven ‘non-federation trained’ players but you will notice that two clubs have eight this season.
That’s because RFL dispensation was granted on account of season-ending injuries which came before round 3 of Super League. That allowed the clubs in question to effectively deregister those players and add another, meaning they remain within the quota limit but looking ahead to future contracts, we’ve listed them as having eight overseas players.
Both Catalans Dragons and St Helens have five players with contracts running out going into the 2026 season, so will need to make a decision as quickly as possible before another club poaches them.
However, as previously reported in Yorkshire Live, there could be a new rule change for 2026 that would see quota players become exempt once they have spent six consecutive years as a Super League player.
That would mean players such as Catalans’ Chris Satae, Hull FC’s Ligi Sao and Hull KR’s Rhyse Martin could soon be exempt, giving the clubs much more freedom to add overseas signings.
