FSU basketball adding Terrance Mann as Assistant GM adds more mometum for Luke Loucks
FSU basketball coach Luke Loucks has wasted no time making moves after getting hired as the regular season commenced. He did a great job at the opening press conference, but how he would build his staff roster is where the real questions lay.
He has made some coaching hires and added its fourth addition from the transfer portal with Jacksonville guard Robert McCray V on Thursday. McCray is a two-time All-Sun selection, averaging about 17 points per game over the past two seasons.
He also added former FSU standout and current NBA player Terrance Mann to his staff as the Assistant General Manager.
It’s unclear what that role will be, especially since Mann will still be an NBA player. However, it’s a new trend, with other players like Steph Curry and Trae Young doing the same for their alma maters.
Here’s the thing. It doesn’t matter what the role is now because the move seemed to generate a buzz and excitement among FSU basketball fans. Mann is one of the most respected former players in recent years, as he was one of the catalysts behind FSU’s run among the elite a few years back under Leonard Hamilton.
Curry and Young have made monetary donations to their program, and that’s something Mann could potentially do. He may also help entice others to give to the program. Let’s be honest, FSU basketball doesn’t have endless monetary resources, so thinking outside of the box is something Loucks will have to do to remain competitive in the landscape.
It never hurts having an NBA player around your program, since that’s the level college players aspire to get to. It has been impressive to see the momentum build under Loucks, and it could continue as they have other targets remaining on the board to complete the roster. We’ll keep you posted as more additions come in.
