The Toronto Blue Jays could potentially be interested in New York Mets DH JD Martinez who has become a free agent to help with their offense.
The Blue Jays have openly discussed that they are looking to add some hitting power this off-season but since they do not have a ton of money available , Martinez could be an interesting signing on a short term contract.
Blue Jays interested in signing former Mets DH JD Martinez to a one year deal
Martinez is definitely on the back end of his career but if the Blue Jays are looking to bring in a solid hitter on a budget, he can be that for them as he still put up solid numbers in New York last season despite being one of their oldest players.
“The short hook: Aging slugger might be on last legs,” Anderson said. “We expressed concerns about Martinez’s decline last offseason. Here we are to do it again. He finished with a 106 OPS+ that represented his worst mark in a full season since 2013 — back before he joined the Tigers and broke out. All of his good hitting was contained to May and June, to the extent that he struck out more times in the second half (63) than he reached base (61). -McAvoy
Most insiders believe that Martinez will likely land a one year deal worth around $9.5 million this winter which is a solid price to pay for a six time all-star who can still hit the ball when he needs to.

While fans are desperately hoping for a bigger name coming to Toronto than Martinez, if the team ends up going the route of spending less money, Martinez could be a viable option.
