The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team has once again demonstrated their dominance by advancing to the Final Four for the fifth consecutive year. Under the leadership of head coach Dawn Staley, the Gamecocks have solidified their reputation as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball.
Their journey to the Final Four this season was marked by resilience and determination, particularly in the Elite Eight matchup against Duke. Trailing by four points heading into the fourth quarter, the Gamecocks rallied with key contributions from players like Te-Hina Paopao and Sania Feagin, ultimately securing a hard-fought 54-50 victory.

Throughout the tournament, South Carolina showcased their depth and talent, with standout performances from both starters and bench players. However, the team faced challenges, including moments of inconsistency and uncharacteristic mistakes. Despite these hurdles, the Gamecocks’ experience and ability to perform under pressure have been crucial in their success. Their bench, which has been a significant strength all season, played a pivotal role in earlier rounds, though it faced tougher competition in later games.

Dawn Staley on Final Four Stint: “It’s a Business Trip For Us”

“Our players are ready. They’re focused. Obviously they’ve been here before,” Staley said. “They understand that this is a business trip but you want to enjoy this journey. You never know when it’s your last time coming to a Final Four.”
“So while we’re here, we’re going to enjoy it, but at the same time, it’s a business trip for us,” she added.
