An MLB source believes that the Toronto Blue Jays have no chance at signing top free agents due to their front office completely ruining the team and not being motivated to win.
The Blue Jays past few seasons but especially last year has proven that the Blue Jays owners are not concerned with winning after they kept Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins for another year despite running the team over the last year.
MLB source the Blue Jays do not have a chance at attracting to MLB free agents
An unnamed MLB source told the Toronto Sun that no free agent will want to go to Toronto after the year they had in 2024Â and the team looking like they are more focused on finances than winning.
«Why would you go to Toronto right now if you’re a free agent?» the source rhetorically asked. «It’s amazing how far this team has fallen from the top in such a short time. If (management) thinks free agents are going to want to come to Toronto the way things are right now – or perceived to be – they’re sadly mistaken. -Longley
The source believes that the Blue Jays are so far behind the 8 ball that they cannot compete with other major teams looking to sign the same free agents. He added that playing in Toronto already comes with challenges when the team is good let alone when they are 10 games out of a Wild Card spot.
«It’s your one chance to pick your spot,» the source said of the mindset of most free agents shopping for a multi-year deal that, in most cases, will be the biggest contract of their career. «There are challenges for playing in Toronto, but at the same time, it’s a hell of a place to play when they’re not good. It’s not exactly always what you want.
«Right now, so many teams are stronger than the Toronto Blue Jays. That’s the reality of it. When you start matching position by position, they can’t compete with many (teams).»
Unless the Blue Jays have some major plan in mind to turn things around, they will have an extremely tough time attracting top end talent to Toronto.
