The Toronto Blue Jays have been rumored to be all in on trying to sign superstar Juan Soto but an MLB reporter has urged the team to sign pitcher Blake Snell instead.
The Blue Jays seem to be getting closer to the New York Mets as the top team to land Soto this off-season after the meeting with the New York Yankees apparently did not go well earlier this week.
MLB reporter urges Blue Jays to avoid signing Juan Soto and to sign Blake Snell instead
The Blue Jays pitching rotation needs help this off-season after struggling with consistency during the 2024 season which is why they seem to be interested in pitchers such as Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell and Max Fried.
MLB reporter Chris Landers stated that the Blue Jays should avoid wasting their time trying to land Soto and should focus on Snell instead who could singlehandedly turn the Blue Jays rotation around.
“Snell would give this team the ace it desperately needs, and the ability to bump either Yariel Rodriguez or Bowden Francis back to the bullpen,” Landers said. “And of the top starters on the market this winter, Snell is the one with the most question marks given his inconsistency and lack of workload – which makes him the most likely to be receptive to the Blue Jays overpaying him to come north of the border.
Landers believes that this would not only be a great move for the rotation but would also allow the Blue Jays front office to go after other great free agents such as Gleyber Torres and Christian Walker instead.
“And it would still allow the team to pursue someone like, say, Gleyber Torres or Christian Walker, along with a reunion with Teoscar Hernandez, all for less total value than a hypothetical Soto contract.”
If the Blue Jays are able to bring in at least one starting pitcher of Snell’s caliber, Toronto could end up with one of the best rotations in the American League next season.
