MLB insider Bob Nightengale released an update regarding the Juan Soto sweepstakes, naming the New York Mets as the clear favorites.
The biggest name of the free agent board in by far Juan Soto as he is set to sign for around $700 million and it looks like the Mets are still the clear favorites despite the Blue Jays being named as one of the teams that still has a shot.
MLB insider announces update on the Juan Soto Sweepstakes
Nightengale announced that the Mets are the clear favorite’s to land Soto for mainly one reason, that Mets owner Steve Cohen refuses to be outbid which he has stated on multiple occasions.
The Mets are the clear-cut favorite, executives say, simply because they don’t believe there’s a soul who will outbid owner Steve Cohen, while Yankees have a price in mind that they don’t want to exceed. -Nightengale
Despite not being the top team which Blue Jays fans already knew, they should be happy that Nightengale named Toronto as one of the four top teams to still have a chance at landing Soto.
There really are only four teams that are seriously in play for Soto: The Mets, the Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox. -Nightengale
The report suggested that Soto will make a decision by the conclusion on the annual winter meetings which will take place in Dallas, Texas between December 9th-12th.
Owners and general managers are convinced that Soto will sign his mega-contract perhaps no later than the conclusion of the winter meetings. This won’t be a repeat case of 2019 when Bryce Harper and Manny Machado patiently waited until their markets blossomed in spring training, or last winter when the money that was there in December evaporated in February. -Nightengale

Dodgers aren’t a threat, Phillies haven’t had a single conversation with Soto/Boras.
Hopefully the Blue Jays will want to try and surpass the Mets offer to have a real chance at landing Soto but it will certainly not be easy.
