One of the strangest pieces of transfer tittle-tattle I’ve come across during the past week related to our striker Elijah Adebayo.
Several sources, including the Sports Mole, ran with the inference that Elijah could be leaving Kenilworth Road for the delights of Turkish football.
Seemingly, the new Fenerbahce manager, Jose Mourinho, wants Elijah to spearhead his strike force.
However, just thinking about this possible move throws up, in my opinion, several obstacles.
Firstly, the fee mentioned is in the region of £7-8 million, surely a massive case of trying to get a player on the cheap. While, in the past, Luton Town’s financial situation has meant players having to be sold on the cheap, the club is now based on sound financial footing following our dalliance with the Premier League.
Secondly, if Elijah were to seek a move away from Kenilworth Road, and I hope he seriously doesn’t, surely there would be bigger and better offers on the table.
I can’t help thinking that Mourinho’s intentions relate to the Portuguese born manager viewing Elijah Adebayo as a striker in the same mould as another he guided to greatness, one Didier Drogba!
