Tiger Woods was a major topic of discussion for the first two days of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst last weekend, but another member of the Woods family is being praised for his play on Wednesday.
Tiger’s son Charlie won his qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur, defeating 85 others in the process.
Fans were happy to see that the son of one of the all-time greats is finding his own success in the golf world.
“Next number one golfer in the world! You heard it here first!,” one fan said.
“Let’s go! Way to go Charlie!,” said another fan.
“Play golf, trust your judgment, and have fun. That is why he won!,” another fan said.
“Little cat is on the hunt,” one fan added.
Another fan called Charlie “the second coming.”
After his big win, Charlie now advances to the championship – an event his father once won three years in a row.
He’ll compete with over 260 other players from July 22-27 at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan.
After two qualifying rounds, the field will shrink down to 64 to end the event.
“I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played really good for the last 16,” Charlie said about his round, according to Golf Digest.
“I just told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles and I took advantage of some nice birdie looks when I had them. Putting was my biggest strength today. I made a lot of putts when I needed to.”
He made five birdies on the day to take home the title, and three other players – Matthew Marigliano, Tristan Wieland and Neil Kulkami – will join him in Michigan next month for the Amateur.
